Chief Innovation Officer, Medical Delta
Roel Kamerling studied polymer chemistry at the Groningen University and received his MSc title in 2001. Ever since he worked at the TU Delft, first as Secretary and later on as Managing Director for several public-private innovation projects and programs dedicated at the discovery and implementation of new solutions for societal challenges.
His mission is to bring together the smartest and most entrepreneurial people to find solutions for e.g. the efficient use of resources (B-Basic and NIMIC program) or to face health challenges (Delft Health Initiative, Medical Delta, HealthTIES and EIT-Health). He predominantly finds his basis in the innovation hotspots of Leiden, Delft and Rotterdam and interlinks this South-Holland region to the national and European level by taking part in several (inter)national projects and committees.

He combines his chemical training and passion for good food and drinks in his interest in “natural chemicals” such as coffee, wine, cheese olive oil etc. “There’s no larger stimulus for change than putting smart, creative and entrepreneurial people in a room with an inspirational challenge and sufficient quality coffee”. Just as a curiosity: he walked from his house in the Netherlands to Rome in 2014.
