Eric van Furth, Ph.D., FAED is Clinical Director of the Center for Eating Disorders Ursula in Leidschendam and Professor of Eating Disorders at the department of psychiatry, Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), the Netherlands. Dr. van Furth is a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist specialized in family therapy. He has been working clinically with patients with eating disorders for more than 25 years. After holding a seat as the Chair of the Dutch Multidisciplinary Treatment Guideline Workgroup on Eating Disorders (2004-2006), he is currently a Fellow and Past-President of the Academy for Eating Disorders.The Center for Eating Disorders Ursula (Centrum Eetstoornissen Ursula) is the oldest and largest specialized treatment program for patients with eating disorders in the Netherlands. Founded in 1988, the program offers (anonymous) e-mental health, outpatient-, day- and residential treatment. It also serves as a tertiary care or \'last resort\' for the most severely ill and complicated patients. At any given time the program accommodates approximately 700 patients. All treatments offered are covered by insurance. On a regional level the Center is developing service delivery based on a disease management model. The Center employs approximately 135 professionals involved in treatment and research. Our main research activities focus on epidemiology, genetics, service delivery, the quality of treatment and treatment evaluation.
