For current podiatry practices, the creation of insoles is both time and labor intensive. Today’s custom therapeutic insoles are produced based on specifications from podiatrists, relying on casting molds or external 2D-scans to model the outside of the feet, together with the podiatrists’ experience and craftsmanship to design the insoles. As the current design of insoles relies heavily on the craftsmanship of the podiatrist, the insole user will receive a different insole design for the same foot problem when approaching different podiatrists.
