Our goal as Wellbyte is to gather data regarding the problems that future patients in the mental healthcare are facing. By analysing this data, we create a meta-overview that classifies these different problems. We use this meta-overview to couple a patient to the right caregiver. This way, Wellbyte aims to improve the quality of life by connecting people that need support with people that are able to help them.

Probleemstelling

Mental health has proven to be a significant issue, both globally and nationally. Patients in mental healthcare face multiple barriers when they decide that they are in need of help. These barriers are: long waiting lists, countless referrals and multiple intake sessions. In the end this leaves people who are in great need, on their own.

Oplossing

Wellbyte offers matchmaking between professionals and patients that are going into mental healthcare.

About 1.1 billion people globally currently suffer from a mental or substance use disorder (Ritchie & Roser, "Mental Health", 2018), placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill-health and disability (World Health Organization, "Mental disorders", 2018). Two out of every five people in the Netherlands have been affected by mental or neurological disorders before they reach the age of 65 (de Graaf et al., "Nemesis-2", 2010). This indicates an enormous possible growth of the market in the future.
Additionally, there were more than 1.1 million people taking mental health care (Vektis, "Zorgthermometer: Inzicht in de ggz", 2017) in 2015. About 20% of the patients in basic mental health care, is being referred to another type of mental healthcare (Vektis, "Zorgthermometer: Inzicht in de ggz", 2017). These patients have already been referred by the general practitioners, meaning that at least one level of care could have been skipped.

During Phase 2 (the supporting phase, see Implementation for more details), we will sell the system on a license basis to mental healthcare institutions. Every therapist can then use our system to analyze the diaries of patients. The price for this system is yet to be determined, as the delivered value is still being co-created with therapists.

Concurrentie

Multiple parties are working on reducing the waiting times of the mental healthcare institutions, however with little or no success. For example, there are institutions that are providing expertise to the general practitioners to make the referrals better. However, this brings enormous costs in terms of time and money to the institutions.

Additionally, there are already a few companies that are analyzing patient problems and use these statistics to improve general care. Using the data to perform matchmaking between patient and professional is quite novel, however. There are e-health tools available that aid the referring process, but few also help in selecting the referral destination.

By using data to analyze the problems, we help professionals identify the broader problem faster. This is a novel approach to recognizing the needs of a patient, especially in mental healthcare.

The system is based on algorithms that are automatically protected using copyrights. Newly created software could still be based on our existing algorithms that way.

To fully protect the system, we need to apply for a patent. To prepare for this application, we will make sure that not too much details of the system are leaked, for example the dimensions that are combined to make an overview of problems. We still have to investigate whether the algorithms and combination can be applied for a patent.

Organisatie

The company will be relatively small, especially in the start-up phase, mainly consisting of:
- Developers for development of the algorithm.
- Medical officer that makes sure that the algorithm is applied to mental healthcare correctly.
- Executive that handles the business relations and marketing.
The company will have at most 5 - 10 employees in the coming year.

Implementatiestrategie

The system will be enrolled in several phases.

Phase 1 - The testing phase
During this time period we will make a proof of concept work. We will test it as accurately as possible and tweak it to make a working analysis of problems. We will improve it to work for patients in mental healthcare.

Phase 2 - The supporting phase
After that, we will start to develop a platform surrounding the system. This will support professionals by analyzing the diaries of patients automatically. The results will be displayed in an accessible overview.

Phase 3 - The referral phase
We will start developing the system that connects patients with professionals based on multiple factors. We will enroll professionals in the system and connect the analysis of problems to the professionals.

Productontwikkeling

As mentioned earlier, the system will be rolled out in three main phases.

Phase 1 - The testing phase
We will develop the system and its core functionality. We prepare it for basic usage in the second phase.

Phase 2 - The supporting phase
We start adding the 'Root causes' to our functionality. We will analyze the problems and connect them to root causes, which will help professionals to start faster with the treatments of their patients. In addition to that, we help improve the accuracy of diagnoses by objectively analyzing the problems.

Phase 3 - The referral phase
We will start developing the system that connects patients with professionals based on multiple factors. Using this, we can make for a better throughput of patients to institutions.
