We allow people to check preventively their renal health, right where they are, at home, or at work. The device measures the eGFR (estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate), allows you to track it over time and share it with your doctor. You can consider the device like a thermometer, it does not give you clinical advice, but it can give you an indication that you will need to get medical assistance from a professional.

Probleemstelling

Kidneys do not have nerves on the inside, just like the liver, so they do not hurt, even when something is wrong. This way, up to one third of diabetics develop chronic kidney disease over time, leading to a total population of around 240 million people suffering from this in the world. Prevalence at country level varies from 8 to 16 percent. One person on dialysis can cost more than 100.000 euro per year, straining personal finances as well as public health systems. If we catch the issue early, we can improve productive lives and remove burdens from health care systems.

Oplossing

Kidneys do not hurt even when you have kidney disease, which is why a lot of people end up having to go to dialysis, especially those who are most at risk, such as diabetics, obese or people suffering from systemic hypertension (all 3 are considered to be pandemics). Nephrosense allows preventive screening, so you can have a longer productive life.
