Imagine if you were given the freedom and comfort of having the knowledge of the best running injury experts in your smartphone, packaged in such a way that it engaged and enticed you to take charge of your (running) health.
At Fysio24 we are changing the way people prevent and recover from running injuries.

and growing market. So is the market for running injuries!
Fysio24 is geared towards the significant proportion of runners who - when injured - choose to search for a solution themselves instead of going to a health professional.
A running injury stops runners in their tracks. Searching for your own injury recovery or prevention solutions is generally hopelessly inefficient and ineffective. Online information is incomplete and often incorrect. It’s often difficult and mostly impossible to judge the authority on which the information is based. People get lost, confused or end up doing the wrong exercises which can be harmful. Although our runners can quickly start searching for an adequate solution it takes quite some time to find some information which seems relevant and helpful.
When performing exercises runners don’t know if they are performing them correctly, they cannot objectively monitor their progression and there is no sense of reward or engagement. The result is that runners will sooner or later disengage with their program and seek advice from a health professional. Three quarters of runners will go (directly) to a physiotherapist. But this costs money. More and more, health conscious consumers are choosing not to opt for a private health insurance (‘aanvullende’ verzekering). They are choosing to buy health services when they need it instead of insuring them. A tradition physiotherapy treatment program of 6-8 sessions will cost around €250. Even if people are insured, a basic insurance to cover 9 session of physiotherapy a year costs between €48-€150 a year. Full coverage (up to 40 treatment sessions) can cost more than €450 a year.
The solution also has to be convenient, allowing runners to go through their program from
the comfort of their home, their work or on the go. They also want to be regularly nudged,
reminded and enticed to adhere to the program in a way that makes it easy and rewarding.
Lastly, runners have a strong desire to track and monitor their progression, gaining insights as to how they can improve their running health and they want to share this information with like-minded others. They want to be challenged and feel proud about achieving their goal.
Immediately available: Regardless of time or location people can access the programs through their smartphone.
Cheaper: Compared to traditional physiotherapy our solution is considerably cheaper (a normal
physiotherapy treatment program of 6-8 sessions costs up to €250). In our library of do-ityourself
prevention and recovery programs we will offer free and paid programs. Our paid
programs range from €5 to €25 depending on the duration of the program.
More convenient: With Fysio24 people don’t have to waste precious time finding the right information, finding
the right physiotherapist, making an appointment and going to a physiotherapist. They can
perform their program from the comfort of their home, work or wherever, whenever it suits
Provides quicker results: Therapy adherence is a major problem in the healthcare sector. The success and speed of a recovery program is for a significantly dependant on the commitment of the individual
to follow lifestyle advice and adhere to a specific program. Unfortunately people often lack
the motivation and engagement to stick to their program. With Fysio24 we employ powerful
persuasive design and behavioural change strategies but also gamification, challenges and
fun and inspirational content to regularly nudge, remind and nudge users to adhere to their
program, therefore stimulating a quicker and more effective recovery.
Authoritative: Our programs are written by renowned running injury experts. These experts are normally not (easily) accessible to consumers. With Fysio24 we have compiled their knowledge and experience together with the latest evidence based practice, scientific evidence and guidelines. We have already found the best so user’s don’t have to.
Mobile first: The programs are created to be used on a smartphone, both with or without an internet
Empowering: Through Fysio24 users are provided with the best knowledge, skills, tools and motivation
to take charge of their injury prevention and recovery. We believe in helping people help
themselves. People have the ability but also desire to be in charge and master new skills. There is an undeniable pride in doing it yourself. For Fysio24 it’s all about equipping, enabling, engaging and empowering runners with regard to their running health.
Connecting with third-party apps: Our programs can easily be connected to popular running and oth er health related apps. Our programs are offered proactively within third-party apps to users with a high chance of
getting an injury.
Parallel to the development of the Fysio24 app, we are also creating a powerful content management system (CMS). This CMS aims to allow both our own experts as well as external experts to continuously generate new programs rapidly via an invite-based webportal.

Janno Barlage Founder, CEO, physiotherapist and runner
I founded Fysio24 due to the desire to make my knowledge and expertise as a physiotherapist accessible to everyone whenever and wherever they need it most. The challenge is not only to make health expertise accessible and immediately available but to make it attractive, rewarding and engaging for users. Only then will people have the knowledge, skills, tools and motivation to master their running health. As a physiotherapist, i have worked in several
leading academic hospitals, been an senior advisor to the Royal Dutch Association of Physical Therapy, set up rural and community rehabilitation services in Papua New Guinea and been nominated for several prizes in the field of digital health. I have a broad knowledge of the healthcare and lifestyle/wellness market and have an expansive network in the (digital)health market.
Christiaan Uythoven Co-founder, Creative director, Interaction Designer and runner/triathlete
I’m firmly convinced that designers have responsibility to create the difference in this world. We are fully trained to explore, observe and understand human behavior and craft sublime ways to make people think, feel and act. Currently I’m exploring different ways to take my responsibility and create a difference. One of these fields of interest is HealthCare. I love to see how design can make the life of consumers (and so patients, or healthcare professionals)
so much easier and convenient. HealthCare is a sector where design thinking can have huge impact on people’s lives and this gives me a lot of energy. As an Industrial Designer I’ve build expertise in the field of interaction Design and Strategic Product Design. I love to create beautiful products which make life more convenient. That is
why we emphasize on thorough knowledge of the user we design for, to create a product which suit them best.

with high-profile running brands.
Our first focus is to establish a strong presence in the Dutch market. In the second half of 2017
we want to launch Fysio24 in the German or UK market.

consumers. We expect to have reached 1,500 downloads of which 500 paid by the end of the year. The growth during this period is conservative. This is because Fysio24 will have a relatively small brand awareness, and the summer, autumn and winter months have a lower running engagement (there are less active runners). The strongest growth in paid program downloads is seen during from the second quarter of 2017.
During the first 12 months (to the end of Q2 2017) we want to focus solely on leveraging the Dutch market. From the second half of 2017 we want to take Fysio24 abroad.
Based on our financial model we will break-even in the fourth quarter of 2017.
